The Sunseeker Resort Charlotte Harbor has opened in Southwest Florida.
The resort, which is Allegiant Travel Co.'s inaugural hotel venture, began welcoming guests in mid-December.
The opening is a long time coming for Allegiant, which announced plans for the Sunseeker in 2017 and broke ground on the project in early 2019. At the time, the company projected that construction would take a maximum of two years. The onset of the pandemic and impact from Hurricane Ian in 2022, however, lengthened that timeline considerably.
Situated across 22 acres of Gulf Coast waterfront, the Sunseeker Resort Charlotte Harbor comprises 785 guestrooms, 20 food and beverage concepts, two pools, a fitness center and spa, retail outlets and 60,000 square feet of meeting and conference space.
Accommodation options include the property's one- to three-bedroom Sunsuites, which range in size from 875 to 1,700 square feet.
The resort also offers guests access to the Aileron Golf Club.
Allegiant Travel Company president Gregory Anderson said that the Sunseeker will play a key role in further diversifying the company's revenue streams. In addition to its airline business, Allegiant sells ancillary products like hotel rooms, rental cars and professional sports packages.
"Over the past five years, we have sold on average about 300,000 third-party hotel room nights per year to our customers," said Anderson. "The opening of Sunseeker Resort is a key milestone in providing more customer offerings."
The Sunseeker is located approximately 10 minutes from Charlotte County's Punta Gorda Airport. Allegiant says its airline flew approximately 1.8 million passengers in and out of that airport for the first nine months of 2023.
Allegiant also serves St. Pete-Clearwater, Orlando Sanford and Sarasota-Bradenton airports, all of which are within a two-hour drive of Charlotte Harbor.
