Hard Rock International has broken ground on a $1.6 billion resort casino in Athens, Greece.
Expected to open in 2027, the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Athens is being built at the site of the former Hellinikon International Airport, which closed in 2001.
The resort will have 1,100 guestrooms as well as a casino with 180 tables and 1,500 machines. It will also feature a 3,000-seat Hard Rock Live theater, spa and fitness facilities, 15 food and beverage venues, shops, and meeting and convention space.
According to Hard Rock, the Athens complex "will be the first integrated resort of its kind in continental Europe."
In Europe, Hard Rock currently has seven non-casino hotels across Spain, Ireland, Hungary and Switzerland.
